Presentation :
The estate was created in 1966 by Gérard and his wife Ginette DELONG on the “côte de Sézanne”. Achalky subsoil, but soils ranging from clays sux sands passing silts and chalk flush, bring a beautiful diversity ti the wines.. Naturelly, the couple becomes “Récoltant-Manipulant”. After a career of passion, they convince their last daughter Marlène, who has moved on to other projects, to take over.
She moved to the estate in 2000 and manages the 2 terroirs: côtes de Sézanne 5Ha20 (chardonnay, Pinot noir, Meunier), Vitryat that she finishes planting until 4H30 (only Chardonnay).
But one thing she lacks: the biodiversity of garden and forest!
So begins a crusade against bare soils, insecticides, too many products and some unnecessary… Aradical change ni farming practices: quality rather than quantity. The Esprit Nature… Adaily philosophy.
Life comes back little by little :fauna, flora, insects, ladybugs, but he first being the butterfly, it’s now the emblem of the new brand : CHAMPAGNE DELONG Marlène.
In 2008, the arrival of Damien, gives a dynamic to the evolution of the house: it takes care of the vineyard, Marlene focuses on the wines and the management of the company.
The wines also evolve: why not highlight the typicity each plot instead of a blend of all? New cuvées are born : mono-cépage, parcel, no dosed…
After a healthy and ripe harvest, only the “Coeur de cuvée” is vinifier with natural yeast (AF) and natural bacteria (MLF). The wines are aged on lees in stainless steel tank between 10 and more than 2 years, or in barrel of the same soil, then on fine lees in bottles for at least 3 years. Few sulfites, no unnecessary inputs, no cold or filtration, no need to strip or stress them, a long aging will make its effect..
Poorly dosed, they each keep their identity with depth, character and aroma while remaining fine and right. Terroir and natural…”DVC” in 2015, “HVE” in 2017, first Organic harvest in 2023.
