🌳 VBO ADAPTATION: THE MAZET ESTATE FACES CLIMATE CHANGE 🌿

Share this post:

In Chigny-les-Roses, during the Vigne Bio Ouverte event on 3 November, Olivier Mazet shared his experience and choices for tackling the challenges of climate change. On his Champagne estate, each row of vines becomes a living laboratory where observation, innovation and respect for life come together.đŸŒ±

A conscious agroecological transition:

Certified organic since 2012, the Mazet estate continues to evolve. Olivier Mazet is committed to a consistent and sustainable approach, integrating viticulture and forestry, controlled grass cover and biodiversity preservation. The goal is to strengthen the vineyard’s resilience in the face of increasingly severe climatic hazards.🍇

Trees to protect the vines: 🌳

Faced with hotter summers ☀, drier soils and violent rainstorms 🌧, the winegrower has chosen to plant trees and shrubs in and around the plots. This strategy limits erosion, promotes water retention and creates protective microclimates. Willows and maples are selected for their ecological functions: humidity, shade and refuge for biodiversity.🌳

Living soil, the key to resilience: 🐞đŸȘČ

The Mazet estate pays particular attention to soil life.

Regular observation of its structure and microbial activity guides practices: sustainable organic fertilisation, limited tillage, thoughtful grass cover. The objective is clear: to preserve soil fauna and maintain a balance between vine vigour and grape quality.

A big thank you to our member Olivier Mazet @champagnepascalmazet for his explanations! 🙏
