Presentation :

Champagne Georges Laval, Cumières Premier Cru

The south-facing slopes of Cumières form a natural cirque dominated by the forest and Hautvillers Abbey, and bordered by the Marne River. Rooted in the chalk, the Cumières vineyards benefit from special sunshine conditions, conducive to early ripening of the grapes. Cumières archives show that my ancestors were already growing vines here in 1694.

As a passionate winegrower, I practice my profession with thought, pleasure and respect:

– old vines are preserved,

– organic farming has been practiced since 1971,

– meticulous manual work is favored and carried out by three skilled craftsmen. Raphaël, Dylan and Mathilde are employed to maintain and support the estate’s 3.5 ha (the average in Champagne is one employee for 3 ha),

– yields are moderate, and harvesting is joyful,

– natural vinification in barrels,

– the singularity of the lieux-dits is respected. The Garennes cuvée is a blend of several terroirs and reserve wines, while the other cuvées bear the name of their Premier Cru terroir and place of origin: Cumières, Les Chênes, Les Hautes Chèvres, Les Longues Violes.
